time trials

Time Trials is a work about the progression of time and the concurrent experience of time and timelessness. The work is choreographed for two dancers who produce sounds with MIDI chairs in contrast to an underlying sound score. Time Trials is a collaboration of artist Paul Marquardt, composer Stephen Rush, and choreographer Patricia Plasko.

The MIDI chairs (musical instrument digital interface) were developed and constructed by Paul Marquardt. MIDI note information is sent directly from the chairs to a digital sampler by movement on the seat. Performers can control velocity, pitch bend and select several sets of sounds from the chairs themselves.
