responsive chair 2021
An artwork considering what unites us as people. When a seated participant leans to the black half of the chair a black person says a word. When leaning to the white half a white person says a word. The words are randomly chosen from a list of words that emphasize our similarities: “listen”, “love”, “see”, “work”, “learn”, “speak” and so on.
The chair is completely contained without any external devices. It requires a wall outlet to power the electronics built into the chair.
